Friday July 13th, 1pm – 3pm

The London based Institute of Contemporary Music Performance is delighted to announce an exclusive masterclass on July 13th with two of the most highly acclaimed and respected musicians in the world. Introducing Mike Stern and Anthony Jackson, who are both legendary names in contemporary music and between them have worked with some of the greatest names in the business, including Roberta Flack, Paul Simon, Steely Dan and Miles Davis.

Mike and Anthony will be joined by the Institute’s Justin Scott for a workshop of playing and performance that will be truly inspirational and not to be missed!

Anthony Jackson

AnthonyJackson.jpgAnthony Jackson very rarely visits the UK, and virtually never presents clinics, so the Institute is very proud that he chose here to join Mike Stern on stage at an exclusive Masterclass.

Anthony Jackson is truly a master of the instrument and widely regarded as the bassist’s bassist. Initially trained on the piano, he switched to the bass after hearing Motown’s James Jamerson. This fascination with the bass even extended to Jackson’s research into the physics of the instrument, which led him to create the six-string bass, decades before they became widespread.

His CV reads like a who’s who of contemporary music, having recorded with artists as diverse as the Paul Simon, Buddy Rich, Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Donald Fagen, Chaka Khan, Lee Ritenour and Al Di Meola to name only a few!

Mike Stern

MikeStern1.jpgMike Stern is simply a master of jazz and fusion guitar who has visited the Institute on many occasions, so it is especially exciting to welcome him back for an exclusive clinic with bass legend Anthony Jackson.

Mike first emerged as a guitar force to be reckoned with when he was 22 and he joined ‘Blood Sweat and Tears’. This was followed with a stint as Miles Davis’ guitarist of choice before he set out on his stellar solo career.

Spanning fifteen years and four Grammy nominations, Mike has carved out a unique reputation as a fluid, firely, lyrical and visionary musician. For many years Mike has also been one of Yamaha’s leading guitar endorsees and uses his own signature model, designed in association with Yamaha.

His extensive solo recording and touring projects have involved Mike collaborating with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the planet, including Jaco Pastorius, Richard Boner, Anthony Jackson, Dave Weckl, Denis Chambers, Steve Jordan, David Sanborn, Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette to name only a few!

This masterclass is free of charge and you can book your place now by contacting the Institute on:

The masterclass is open to members of the public however places are limited and priority will be given to students of the Institute.
